Clare is a Hunting enthusiasts dream come true offering exceptional recreational opportunities. “Farwell Michigan” is located on the southern border of Clare County. The town was established in 1870 when the Pere Marquette Railroad, building a line from Saginaw to Ludington came through here. It was named after Samuel Farwell, a local resident who took a strong interest in the building of the railroad. Today Farwell retains its small town atmosphere, supported by small businesses and several manufacturing firms. Farwell also plays a role in tourism, being close to the "Lakes" area in the county. “Lake George Michigan” is located in the north-central portion of Lower Michigan in the heart of Clare County. This small community began as a lumber town in 1880 and is situated between two lakes, Lake George to the south and Shingle Lake to the north. “Gladwin Michigan” received its present name in 1883, having been known previously as Cedar. Gladwin was incorporated as a city in 1893. Gladwin offers Thousands of acres of state land are available for hiking, nature study, ORV adventures, snowmobiling, camping, hunting, fishing, and much more. With over 50 lakes and 473 miles of streams and rivers, it's no wonder that fishing, pleasure boating, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming are so popular. Natural resources are here in abundance. “Beaverton Michigan” is located in southeastern Gladwin County at the junction of the Cedar and Tobacco Rivers. It was founded in 1890 by Donald Gunn Ross & Sons, lumbermen from Beaverton, Ontario. This town was first named Grand Forks because of its position on the 2 rivers, but was later named Beaverton by the Ross’s in tribute to their Canadian home town. The main feature of this area is the dam, which creates a scenic pond up both rivers. You can also get some good fishing in either below the dam, or in the park above on the pond.
